Grall/Glenn/Grall have been inviting the public to view "Tara Plantation" in Vero Beach, Florida during the Christmas Holiday Season.

Last Christmas, when I visited there with a friend, I decided I simple had to create a painting showing how beautiful the outdoor grounds and main building looked in holiday lights.

I showed the original to the owner and he purchased it. I was grateful and happy.

Palms And Morning Light

Someone once said paintings are never finished.

I have found that this one is never finished but some that I have done I consider finished.

In any case, this is the latest painting update to make it finished.

I had to develop the flowers in the foreground and add more pinkish color to the lightest spots in the sky

I also added in some birds to the light sky area.

Surf and Gulls

I painted this little 4"x6"plein air ocean scene at the JayCee Park Boardwalk.

The herring gulls seem to wait patiently as the surf rolls in.

I am using more paint right out of the tube to create a more richly textured surface

which seems to bring more life to paintings like this.

Beached Boats is hot off the press. I did a smaller version of it recently, and it inspired me to paint the scene larger.

I love the colored stripes on the boats and found the composition in a square format exciting.

I am intrigued by the negative space in between the trees in the distance

I am fascinated by this sculpture of one of the first environmentalists in the Florida area. was aided by Franklin Roosevelt to save and maintain Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.

I don't remember his name- maybe I will amend this blog after I find out.

In any case, he overlooks this beautiful view of the Indian Rive where I was inspired to work on this 5x7 Plein Air Painting today

Ocean Grill

I am having fun painting this picturesque Vero Beach Restaurant ona a small scale, 5x7. It is definitely one of the most fun spots, with the charming flavor of Vero Beach in its driftwood exterior.
I am becoming freer and willing to create and have fun with paint texture.
Also, I have discovered Burnt Umber- the most wonderful color for adding depth and richness.

I figured our a way I could use the beautiful hibiscus bush in this flamingo painting near the house we recently moved into.
Part of the resolution was inspiration from a walk in the wonderful McKee Gardens.
The gingers were in bloom and a guide told me the name of the one with a flower in the shape of a flamingo head- the "Shell Ginger" Couldn't help but try to incorporate the flower into the design of this painting.
Not quite finished, but I will work on this 23x40 acrylic painting today-price $675.00

Twilight Regatta

I recently sold a small watercolor regatta and have had them on my mind.
I decided to do this opaque acrylic version with the intent to make the colors as soft as I could in this 15"x30" acrylicpainting
I found it took a lot more effort to do an enlarged regatta because I had to do more drawing on the boats
to have them be credible. On the small size, just suggestion of shape s was enough.
Price $600.00 for this framed painting

Well, I did it.
I added a dog to a painting that was originally just a lonely boat on the beautiful Herring river in Dennis, Massachusetts.
I have done a similar image in the past, and felt that a touch of humor always makes me feel good, even though
it wasn't my original intent with this painting-just the light on the marsh, the sky and boat were enough.
Something in the boat kind of finishes things off! Painting is 11x14

I bought this gallery wrap box type canvas a while back and found a subject to paint on it.-
a window twith a window box. I did a wraparound of some of the lower decorative molding
around the sides of the canvas to give it more dimension.
Tomorrow I will publish a photo which helps show the 3-D effect of this 4x6 little painting

While I was on Jungle Trail, I took a little time to develop this 5x7 plein air painting- another Indian River Lagoon scene
which I found captivating.
The shape of the shelter reminds me of an oriental buildiing.

I overcame a hurdle today:to finish a little 4x6 plein air painting on site.
I did- was captivated by the small palms in the distance framed by the larger ones on the right closer to my view.
I was rewarded by returning home and finding a lovely comment in my mail from Paintdancer who said she thought my painting of Sunset and Sandpipers was lovely.
Since I felt a little stuck on that painting, it was good to accomplish something today and great to be painting outside.

Sometimes I think I'm nuts taking precious painting time reworking things but I have to rework this painting.
Seeing it everyday makes me dissatisfied with too many things about it.
I feel I have to get the color and sense of light the way i like them or it simply isn't done- so I will continue to revise til I like it better, Would love some feedback

Had to change the foliage to the lef of the tree
Feel that the pointed and broader leaves give more balance to the painting and a break from all the yellow-greens.

I was finally able to do a little more work on my painting.
Having just moved to a new locarion, my painting got disrupted.
Now that I'm feeling more settled, it's easier to concentrate.
I wanted to change the color and the leaf shapes of the mango tree, and do more with the path lights and shadows.

I have had to continue work in this painting of the sky to recreate a stage I had a few days ago when the recipe worked better.
I think I have resolved the issue.
I wanted the twilight's light nore dramatic than yesterday's session and figure out the right color blend to make the sky work with the river
I feel the adjusments, after seberal more layers of color have given more of balance to the painting.

I worked on developing more ligh inthe lightest spot of the painting where the sun's rays hit and reflect in the ocean.

I had to develop this painting-
now that I've softened the cadmium orange colors, I find I need to create the intense brightness of the sunset in a different way- more work than I thought (as always)\

Tulip Barrell Revised

This painting has unearthed some aesthetic problems which have puzzled me for quite some time.
I recognized that the puddle in front of the barrell as I originally painted it took on too much importance.
I decided to resolve the puddle in a different way. While painting it out, the more sketchy state helped resolve the problem ( I now think)
By just suggesting the puddle, the barrell with tulips really becomes the sbject of the painting .
( (probably lesson 10 in art instruction manuals, but for me more like lesson 1200)
